So, this girl, her name is Kristen. She is one of my nearest & dearest friends for the last 20 years. She just moved back to Northwest Ohio from Chicago. Selfishly, I’m so glad she’s back! She’s all settled in and even got an amazing studio space at Collingwood Arts Center which I got to visit after she moved all of her studio things in.
After (kind of) helping Kristen move this 300 lb bag of some cement-like substance from her backseat up to her studio, we spent the day hanging out. She was supposed to start working on a sculpture but never got to it (because we talked too much…no surprise). We ended up exploring the CAC, the mansion, and ended in the theatre where we could just whisper and yet it still traveled loudly. We got to catch up on years of details that you miss through electronic connection while we sat in that beautiful theatre. It was unplugged conversation…and it was amazing.
It’s great to have another friend like that back in my life that I can hang out with. Another artist. Another great person to talk to. Another person I can enjoy Kreayshawn songs with (not everyone likes that….lol). I always tell everyone she’s an awesome sculptor, but she’s a damn good photographer too. Then I go on to talk about how she did this black and white photography project of drag queens as they were getting dressed. I still remember the photos vividly because they were beautiful.
I could go on forever. Anyways, here are some of my favorite photos from our adventures touring Collingwood Arts Center & hanging out in her studio.
